Senior Photos That Actually Feel Like Them
A fully guided, confidence-building portrait experience designed to help your teen feel seen, confident, and unforgettable.
Most senior photos feel rushed, awkward, or overly posed.
This is different.
At J Anderson Studios, I create a space where your teen can relax, be themselves, and walk away feeling confident—not just in their photos, but in who they are.
Because this moment deserves more than a checklist.
It deserves to be remembered.

What Seniors and Their Parents Are Saying
“I wasn’t expecting this to feel so different from every other photo experience we’ve had. Jennifer made my daughter feel completely at ease, and you can see it in every image. These aren’t just senior photos—they actually feel like her. Confident, genuine, and beautiful. It was worth every bit of the investment.”
Dad“I was honestly really nervous going into this because I don’t usually like photos of myself. But this was completely different. Jen guided me the whole time and made it feel easy and natural. When I saw the photos, I couldn’t believe it was me—in a good way. I actually felt confident.”
Senior
“This experience meant more to me than I expected. As a mom, you always hope your child sees themselves the way you do—but that doesn’t always happen. These photos captured my daughter’s personality in such a real and powerful way. It wasn’t just about pictures—it was about how he felt walking away from it.”

Yes. We offer flexible options to make planning for your senior's portrait experience easier.

You don't need to! That's our job. You'll receive professional direction throughout your entire session—from what to do with your hands to where to look and how to move. We'll guide you through posing and expression so you never have to wonder what you're supposed to be doing.
-
We recommend reserving your Senior Experience 2–3 months in advance, especially if you have a specific season, location, or deadline in mind.
Fall and spring dates tend to fill quickly, so booking early gives you the best selection of session dates and plenty of time for your reveal appointment, artwork, graduation announcements, and gifts.
Have a yearbook or graduation deadline? Let us know when you inquire so we can make sure your portraits are completed in time.
-
The same day!
After your photoshoot, we'll take a short break while I prepare your images for your same-day Reveal + Ordering Appointment.
You'll see your portraits for the first time, choose your favorites, and select the artwork and products you love—all while the excitement from your session is still fresh.
No waiting weeks to see your senior portraits.
-
Absolutely—you are welcome to do your own hair and makeup. However, we highly recommend working with our professional hair + makeup team to ensure the best possible experience and finished portraits.
When professional styling is selected, one of our artists will meet you right here at the studio before your photoshoot. Our team is experienced in creating camera-ready hair and makeup that photographs beautifully while still looking natural, age-appropriate, and authentically you.
It's also part of the experience! You'll have time to relax, feel pampered, and ease into your session while your artist gets you ready. By the time you step in front of the camera, you'll already feel polished, confident, and ready to go.
Professional hair + makeup is available for $250.
-
We recommend 2–3 looks during your Senior Experience. This gives us plenty of variety while keeping the session relaxed and allowing enough time to create something intentional with each look.
Your looks can be completely different—from casual and laid-back to dressed up, athletic, musical, dance, or something that represents a hobby or passion that’s important to you.
During your planning consultation, we'll help you choose outfits that photograph beautifully together while showing off different sides of your personality.
If you've added professional hair + makeup to your experience, your $250 styling service includes one hair + makeup look. Minor adjustments can be made throughout your session, but a completely different hair or makeup look must be arranged in advance and may require an additional fee.
-
Your senior session can take place in our Mesa, AZ studio or on location—we'll choose the setting that best fits your personality, style, and vision.
During your planning consultation, we'll talk through the look you want to create and help select the perfect setting. Whether that's a polished studio experience, an urban backdrop, the desert, or somewhere meaningful to you, your location should feel like part of your story.
Have a specific location in mind? Bring us your ideas! Locations requiring extended travel, permits, admission fees, or special access may require an additional fee.description
-
Absolutely. In fact, we encourage it. Your senior portraits should tell your story. Instruments, dance attire, sports gear, uniforms, books, artwork, cars, or anything connected to your interests can be incorporated into your session. We'll talk through your ideas during your planning consultation so everything feels intentional rather than like a collection of props.
-
Absolutely! Parents are welcome to come along. That said, we find that seniors often relax, open up, and show more of their personality when they have a little space from Mom or Dad during the actual photoshoot.
A big part of our process includes posing, movement, and emotive coaching designed to bring out genuine expressions and confidence. Having an audience—even a supportive one—can sometimes make teens more self-conscious.
You're welcome to be nearby, but once we're shooting, we ask parents to sit back, relax, and let us take the lead. This gives your senior the freedom to settle into the experience while we create portraits that feel authentic to who they are.
-
For studio sessions, we typically begin at 9:00 AM and wrap up in the early afternoon. We intentionally don't rush the experience—we want plenty of time for each look, outfit changes, creative sets, and breaks along the way.
If you've added professional hair + makeup, your artist will meet you at the studio and we'll begin your experience with styling before stepping in front of the camera.
After your photoshoot, we'll take a short break while we prepare your images for your same-day Reveal + Ordering Appointment.
We recommend keeping the day flexible so you can relax, enjoy the experience, and never feel like we're racing the clock.
-
Your professionally edited digital images are typically delivered sooner, once your final selections have been fully retouched and prepared.
For albums and wall art, please allow approximately 6–8 weeks for delivery. Our heirloom products are handcrafted in Portugal and made specifically for you, so they require a little extra time to create.
Once your artwork arrives at the studio, we'll personally inspect everything to ensure it meets our standards before arranging delivery.
Have a graduation, gift, or other important deadline? Let us know during your planning consultation so we can help you plan accordingly.
-
To create the best experience for your senior, sessions are reserved exclusively for the senior being photographed.
We've found that seniors are much more comfortable opening up, taking creative risks, and responding to posing and emotive coaching when they aren't being watched by friends, siblings, or significant others.
Keeping the session one-on-one allows us to stay focused on your senior, their personality, and their story—and gives them the space to fully settle into the experience.
Parents are, of course, welcome to attend.
